What is a time bank?

At its most basic level, time banking is simply about spending an hour doing something for somebody in your community. That hour goes into the Time Bank as a Time Dollar. Then you have a Time dollar to spend on having someone doing something for you.

Who is involved in the time bank?

The PDX Time Bank was founded with an inspiration that all families in Portland neighborhoods would be able to connect in a meaningful way sharing time, talent and fun.

How does it work?

We are a community-led Time Bank. We invite you to share your talent, skill or service no matter how simple or professional in exchange for something useful to you. Choose amongst dozens of categories such as transportation, help at home, companionship, community activities, wellness, recreation, education, arts & crafts, music, home repair, business services and more. .

How does the community exchange work?

We use an online community tool to coordinate and track exchanges of services and have regular meet-ups, potlucks and activities around town to stay connected.

What are the community's values?

We are part of an international community of time banks. Our core values include recognignizing all human assets; reciprocity and the value of exchange, redefining work, community interdependence and respect.

How can I get involved?

There are lots of ways to start. Check out our calendar for upcoming events. Attend a time bank potluck or intro session. Or jump right in and join, getting started with your exchanges right away.
